Farm Share June 11, 2022

Good Morning!

Today is the first day of our 2022 season! If you signed up for group one or the full share, please come visit us to pick up your farm share from 10 am- 1 pm.

When you arrive, please look for the picnic tables on the side of Crystal Lake Road. Look for the pinwheels on the side of the road to see our set up.

As expected, the first edition of the CSA is full of greens and fresh herbs, and we have some really nice looking stuff for you that we think you will enjoy. Here's a list of what you'll be getting:

- Pac Choi

- Portugese Kale

- Swiss Chard

- Arugula

- Kale (White Russian and Red Russian)

- Radishes

- Chinese Cabbage

-Basil, Thai Basil, Parsley, Rosemary and Garlic Scapes

Here are today's special items:

Protein for omnivore share- 1 whole chicken.

Cheese from Four Fat Fowl- Award winning "St. Stephen."

Bread from Bee's Knees Bakery- Rustic White

These items will be available for pick up shares that pre-ordered with their farm share. They may be added on while supplies last.

We will also be highlighting pork sausage that will be available for retail sale as an add on.

Reynolds Family Farm and Groves Family Farm are providing farm fresh pasture-raised eggs that will also be available for add-on ($5/dozen).

If you're wondering what to do with your whole chicken, here is a guide on how to maximize. Maybe consider making a marinade with olive oil, a bit of apple cider vinegar and some of your fresh herbs ... rub into the chicken skin and allow to marinate as they thaw - then can grill the bird tonight! Serve with a sautéd chard, a slice of fresh bread with St. Stephen's spread. I'm getting hungry.

For snacking, consider making kale chips for a colorful, healthy and delicious snack! I still don't understand how these end up tasting like healthy potato chips!

Please remember to share any recipes that you have success with, so we can try them too, and share them in future posts.

Thanks again, and see you soon!
