Greetings Friends and Neighbors,
It's been a busy week! With the awesome help of some incredible volunteers we've continued planting, mulching and weeding the main garden and things are coming along very nicely. With the help from a couple of our neighbors and handymen, we have made progress on painting the barn and electrical installation. The chickens and pigs have grown beautifully, and now that all the CSA pigs have gone to processor and the baby goats are finding their new homes, the farm is getting a little quieter and more focused on the continued harvest.
We just got some awful news yesterday morning. Last week the Fisher family, the folks who operate Morningstar bakery and poultry processing, suffered a catastrophic fire that leveled their home, farm, bakery and USDA processing plant. Thank goodness, the family was able to get safely out of the buildings, but some horses and dogs were not so lucky. To learn more about this loss and how you can help, please click here.
While the beginning of the season has been dominated by greens, you'll be happy to know that many varieties are waiting in the wings - Garlic, Potatoes, Onions, Tomatoes, Peppers, and Summer Squash are all starting to take off and we hope to share them with you soon! In the meantime, here's the list of what you'll be receiving today: -Spring Onions
-Kale
-Portugese Kale -Lettuce Mix
-Purple Pac Choi
-Rosemary, Sage, Curly and Flat Leaf Parsley
For this weeks protein, you will be getting 1 package each of our bratwurst sausage and chicken breast. Want more protein? Check out our online store! We can put your order together and have it ready for pick up at the farm. We also offer delivery within a 5 mile radius for $5. Delivery is free with orders of $100 or more. We have eggs available from Averill Park's own Reynold's Farm for $5/doz. Also available for add-on is Chicken Pot Pie for $12/each, and our very own Chicken Sausage (perfect for a cookout). Chicken sausage varieties are Garlic and Sweet Italian: $8.50 for a package of 6 patties. Some ideas to try with this week's ingredients: Grilled chicken breast and bratwurst. Rub the chicken breast with herbs, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Chop and sauté Portuguese kale and the spring onions in olive oil and use this as a topping on the bratwurst or grilled chicken breast. Very simple, easy and AMAZING! Let us know what other recipes you try, and please share what you like best! Thanks as always, -Mark, Diana, Eva and Noah
