WEEEEK 1, inbound.

We debated much. Thought that with the crazy wet spring and some late plantings, maybe we should push CSA Week 1 to the right by seven days or so... but steadfast determination of germination and photosynthization prevails!

CSA week 1 is imminent. We are committed to this coming Sunday, June 16, for the first basket of home-grown goodness, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. For sure, we're anticipating some beautiful greens, garlic scapes, lettuce and herbs for this week's share... and with luck we may also have a couple weather-dependent bonus items. The protein of the week is likely to be pork, as we're picking up our just-processed Berkshire pork from Stratton's Custom Meats this week. The pastured chickens are not far behind.

WEEK 1: Sunday morning pickup is 9am -11am on our front porch at 135 Crystal Lake Road, Averill Park, NY 12018. We may narrow down the time window for future weeks depending on your preferences, and I'll send an update this weekend with a closer approximation of the contents of your share in hopes of helping you prepare for it's best use. For example, I can tell you now that you might want to procure a nice bottle of rum to make some fresh mojitos, because you'll definitely get a fresh bundle of mint!

For pickup timing/location concerns, please let us know ASAP of any issues and we'll do what we can to accommodate.

Some lessons-learned and helpful reminders from last year:

1. Please check out this blog post from last season about helpful tools you may want to acquire to maximize your CSA share, if you don't already have these items we think you should at least check them out!

2. We recommend that you establish a back-up person/family, in case you're unable to pick up your share on a given weekend, or if you go on vacation. With notice, we'll do what we can to set items aside (we can stash your protein in the freezer), but our intent is to harvest food for our members at maximum freshness and nutrient density. If we don't get advance notice and you cannot get your weekly share, it will be donated to a local family through Saint Henry's Church down the road from us.

3. Community Supported Agriculture is a way to share the successes and challenges of sustainable food. We strive to get you the absolute best the soil provides on a given week, but as we grow organically, all is subject to weather and pests. Early shares are likely to be heavier on greens and herbs, and the variety ought to increase as the season rolls.

From the bottom of our hearts' we thank you for your participation and support. We believe in good, clean food, and we are psyched by the opportunity to share, learn and grow along with you! See you Sunday!
